Educators Endorse Lauren Arthur
Kansas City, Mo. – A broad coalition of education advocates, including groups that represent both administrators and teachers, have announced their endorsement of Lauren Arthur in the upcoming special election in Senate District 17.
“I am honored to have received the endorsement of so many pro-education groups,” said Missouri Representative Lauren Arthur. “As a former teacher, I have seen that reckless tax cuts for big corporations hurt our classrooms. I’m running to be a voice for public education, and I will always stand with our children over corporations and billionaires.”
The Missouri National Education Association, Better Schools for Missouri, and the American Federation of Teachers have all announced their support for Arthur in the June 5th election. A former middle school teacher, Arthur’s relentless fight to prioritize funding and commonsense policies, including addressing transportation needs in local school districts and ensuring charter schools are held to the same standards as public schools, are cited as the motivation behind the outpouring of support.
“As educators, we are committed to the success of every student. That's why local teachers and educators are endorsing Lauren Arthur, said Charles Smith, the President of the Missouri National Education Association. “Lauren Arthur is the outspoken champion our students and teachers need in Jefferson City.”
“School leaders are proud to stand with Lauren Arthur in her campaign for State Senate. During her time in the Legislature, Lauren has been a tireless champion for public schools in the Northland,” said Dr. Allan Markley, superintendent of the Raytown School District and president of the Missouri Association of School Administrators. “With Lauren in the Senate, Northland families will have a strong advocate fighting to ensure students receive every dollar necessary to provide the opportunities they deserve.”
“Missourians need legislators that will prioritize students and working families over corporations and special interests. In her time in the legislature, Lauren has proven time and again to be on our side,” said Kansas City Federation of Teachers - Local 691 President Andrea Flinders . “The American Federation of Teachers stands with Lauren Arthur, because Lauren Arthur stands with teachers and students.”
